An Institutional Member who has completed all of the requirements for candidacy status as stated in the Accreditation Policy Manual will be a considered a candidate for accreditation. The Institutional Member must have graduates of the programme and be in existence for at least three years. The specific term used to state the outcome a positive outcome for candidacy is ATHEA-Candidate. In the ATHEA Charter, the specific membership category is Candidate Member. The member, therefore, becomes an ATHEA Candidate Member, having been granted ATHEA-Candidate by the ATHEA Board of Commissioners.
To become ATHEA-Candidate, an institution must:
Be an institutional member of the ATHEA.
Submit a Candidacy Self-Evaluatio (go to downloads for example).
. Applications for Candidacy must be approved and signed by the institution’s chief executive officer (i.e., president, chancellor, director general), affirming the institution is a commitment to abide by the accreditation policies and procedures of the THEA Board of Commissioners.
Pay its application fee for candidacy status to ATHEA.

After 7 years following the date of accreditation, reaffirmation of accreditation is required for an institution to maintain its accredited status. For the institution to be considered for reaffirmation of accreditation by the ATHEA Board of Commissioners, the institution must:
Be in good standing with ATHEA as an Institutional Member.
Prepare a self-evaluation.
Pay its application fee for reaffirmation of accreditation to ATHEA.
Undergo a site visit.
Be reviewed by the ATHEA Board of Commissioners.
